CUPW/Canada Post Negotiations Resume Soon
One of the sticky issues in this negotiating round between the CUPW union and Canada Post is CTI (Corporate Team Incentive) which is a bonus system. The union doesn't particularly like it but the supervisor's union APOC seems to love it.
Here's a letter that I wrote to the CUPW president, Deborah Bourque on this subject:
"It has come to my attention that many supervisors are happy with the APOC CTI program. This is because their recent bonuses have amounted to thousand of dollars($4000 to $5000 in some cases).
Obviously, the CTI package offered CUPW is a diluted version of this program. Since APOC has accepted this bonus program, it’s probably with us to stay.
I fine it grossly unfair that they should be getting thousands of dollars from the profits of Canada Post while CUPW members GET NOTHING. We’re all shareholder in CPC including those who actually move the mail which can be tedious and stressful at times.
The Government makes millions from Canada Post and the various levels of supervision as well. This is salary plus CTI bonus. The CTI program which is in place for APOC should be in place for CUPW: similar benefits, similar bonuses. They profit from our negotiations. We should profit from theirs.
The bonuses may come down for APOC and increase for CUPW because it’s a bigger union. So what? We all move the mail and we should be fairly rewarded for doing it well and quickly.
My vision of longevity rewards for CUPW shareholders and sick time not taken is that they both should be put in a new severance package for the employees when he/she retires replacing “Section 28” of the old severance payout."
