I had a father who was in the Second World War. He didn't land in Normandy, but he served in Italy and Holland. He didn't say much about his war service which was understandable because he lost two brothers and friends during the conflict. The highlight of his service was guarding German soldiers who were transported to POW camps in Canada.
We should never take our freedoms for granted. It took the sacrifice of many fine persons to perserve the way of life that we enjoy today. My father passed away in 1968 partially from a lung condition that he developed in the war, but his contribution to my life and the lives of others will never be forgotten.
Hug and thank a veteran today. You may not get the chance tomorrow.
