quizzicalIt looks like "American Idol" has topped out as the biggest karaoke contest on the planet. The final episode was down substantially from last year.
Obviously, there should be more original material sung in this contest. This would also promote the works of songwriters who desperately need a break.
The song numbers could become production numbers like in a musical or a MTV video. This would raise the series up to a variety show. Maybe in 20 or 30 years, American Idol could be said in the same breath as "The Ed Sullivan Show" and "American Bandstand".
