This was a special show from the "haves" in the U.S. to the "have nots" of Africa and the United States.
The biggest highlight for me was Celine Dion and Elvis together singing "If I Can Dream". The song used the latest in haliographic projection to produce its wonderful effects, very real and very touching.
Another highlight was Josh Grogan singing "You raised Me Up" with "The Children's African Choir". Again, this was inspirational music that crosses all barriers and all races.
A big lowlight was Jack Black singing "Kiss Of A Rose" as an insane "idol contestant." It was just insane without being funny. Another lowlight was Annie Lennox's tepid version of "Bridge Over Troubled Waters." Why didn't anyone have Simon and Garfunkle do their own hit?
No one got kicked off of American Idol from their performance yesterday. This was a classy thing to do. The emphasis of the performers and stars was on "Giving Back" not winning or self promotion. Three stars.
