A Voice From The Past
Today, I received an e-mail and a school picture from someone that I haven't heard from in forty years. He got my name from the Google Search Engine and it really warms my heart to think I'm part of somebody's treasured memories.

Here's the letter:
"Hello David,
Once, I was watching television and you were being interviewed. I thought, I gotta contact that guy.
Recently, I was looking at some old photographs from Barrie District Central Collegiate. That made me think of you again. I thought, I gotta contact that guy. Today, I googled your name and that is why you are getting this message. I recently sent The Barrie Examiner a photograph ( which I will
attach to this communication) and asked if they are interested in a "where are they now?"- type
of story. The publisher passed it on to their editor, but I haven't heard anything since. I'm in that photograph. If you are the same David Barron who went to Barrie District Central Collegiate
at about the time I did .... congratulations on all you have achieved! Judging by your website you're a happy man and that is excellent. So congratulations once again! If you are not the David Barron I think I am writing to, please accept my best wishes and have yourself a great day".
Cheers,
George Czerny-Holownia.

Here's the school photo. I'm in the third row fifth from the left. Well done George.

Movie 101: Walk The Line
Mood:  a-ok
While the story looks like a country version of "Ray", it's only because both men had similiar humble beginnings with similar guilt-filled experiences.

With the emphasis on the relationship between June Carter and Johnny Cash, the story moves towards their wedding with touching and stormy scenes.

It's a old saying that the path of true love is never smooth and the Cash/Carter relationship proves it. Four stars.

I Don't Know How Many People Have Visited This Blog
But I do know that 147,773 unique individuals have visited our websites over the last four years.

Those stats are from the hit-counters that are on most of our sites except this blog. The reason for that is you can't put a counter anywhere on this page except as an entry and that falls off the page after 11 posts.

The Barron/Hotel California websites are on the left side of these blog entries. If this is your first time or second time, etc., please do the survey below. Thanks for visiting.

Too Many Superheroes
Mood:  caffeinated
As well as the Marvel Family, I was big fan of DC comics in the 50s and 60s. Like most kids, I loved Superman, Supergirl and Superdog. The emphasis was more on stories/plots and characters(i.e strange villains)than wild action, although there was lots of that too.

Suddenly Marvel Comics took flight in the 60s and the superheroes plus villians proliferated like weeds. Don't get me wrong, I thought Spiderman was cool and the Hulk was groovy, but the characters kept growing and the fights kept getting longer and bigger.

I gave up comic book fantasies for more realistic science fiction like Star Trek, Star Wars and Battlefield Earth.

I must admit that I enjoyed Chris Reeve as Superman in four movies and Michael Keaton was great as the first Batman. After that, I overdosed on superheroes except for Toby Mcquire's Spiderman.

It came down to, too many cliches in the superhero genre: Too many stupid costumes, too many high powered fights that started to look the same.

I don't doubt there are superbeings in the universe, but I don't think they channel superpowers through a superbody. That would just make them an exposed target for the bad guys.

Superbeings, probably, have developed their powers on a spiritual level without the aid of a body.
Somebody like "Q" from "Star Trek" would fit that catagory as well as "The Sons of God" from "The Brotherhood of Christ."

There are different mythologies on this subject.
Feel free to give me your views on it.

The Quest To Become A Superhero
The concept of a "Son of God" being a superhero was in vogue a couple of centuries ago.

With the apostles going through a pre-teen period, it became fadist to dress and act like a mighty warrior.

Spiritual and physical development are two different things. However, when you're dealing with children in the Kingdom of God, you might end up with something like the Marvel Family below:

As a child, I was fascinated by the Marvel Family. So was Elvis for that matter, do you remember his cape which was based on Captain Marvel Jr.'s uniform.

Where Have You Been Over The Last Two Thousand Years?
There's an old saying that God has no grandchildren. The new universe starts and ends with the "Sons of God"(Alpha and Omega).

Christ himself stated that "the flesh profits nothing". Check the bible, Jesus had no obsession about a bloodline or a physical legacy.

It would have been interesting if Mr. Dan(Da Vinci Code) Brown had some insights into "The Second Foundation"(The growth and expansion of the early church over the last two thousand years).

The whole interconnectedness(like a big internet on a spiritual level)of the Church through "The Mind of Christ" is lost to a humanist like Brown.

There's another story here and it hasn't been told yet.

More Background Behind Hotel California
Much of the background material on Hotel California comes from surfacing mythologies in the 1950s and 1960s. The explosion of information and different cultural/religious trends continues today. Look at the influence of "Lord of the Rings" and "Star Trek".

Since I'm aware of the events and personalities that inspired "Hotel California", I'd say its more reality based than "Lord of the Rings", "Star Wars", or even the "Da Vinci Code."

Are You An Expert On Rock And Roll?
Mood:  bright
Recently, I connected on a blog forum on the subject of experts in general and Rock and Roll experts in particular.

I replied to a someone who thought he was an expert on various subjects including R & R. There is much about Rock and Roll in this blog. It's one of my hot topics.

Here's the post:

In order to be an expert on Rock and Roll, you have to know the greatest rare oldies of all time. These aren't played on any radio station, but most of them can be downloaded on a peer to peer network.

The task ahead of you is formidable, but extremely satisfying. I'm talking about good(not great)music. Songs like "The Singing Nun's, Dominque" or "They're coming to take me away, hah, hah", don't make the grade.

Scott Bellus's "Robbin' The Cradle"(circa: 1959) makes the grade. It was a top ten song in Canada and reached 26 on the Billboard charts in 1959.

I know alot of this stuff. Some of it is "Do Wop". Some of it is just soft rock.

In my opinion, the rare lost music of the 50s and 60s is superior to most of the material on MTV (1980 and up). Remember back in the old days, music was something you heard on AM radio. It had to be good to make an impact.

Rock and Roll music was and still is young music. It helped to define what youth is in a very old universe. In many way, good R & R can unlock doors to the subconscious. I consider it to be "One Of The Keys To Eternity".

This is an awesome subject. I wish you the best of luck on your next adventure.

Do you like old TV shows like "Amos and Andy?"

Martin & Lewis: The Colgate Comedy Hour
Mood:  special
I saw the first Colgate Comedy Hour last night and it was hilarious.

For two different personalities, Dean Martin and Jerry Lewis worked well together and had fun doing their comedy routines.

Jerry back in the old days was the super clown who was willing to do anything for a laugh.

For $6.88 Canadian, I got eight comedy shows on two DVDs.

Great bargain for the best comedy duo of the late 1940s and earlier 1950s. Four stars.
