I Got A Severance Package
You may think that I was just terminated from my job but that isn't the case. While some supervisors may think that I've gone into early retirement, I'm still working regularly and drawing a paycheck every two weeks. I also get a fair amount of overtime in my section.

Many others got their severances too, but they liked the paychecks so much they kept showing up to get them.

The only place that this could happen is the Canadian Post Office. Getting your severance doesn't mean you're out of a job. It's just like getting a big bonus."Only in Canada? What a pity."

Beware Of The Dwarf
Mood:  on fire
A dwarf escapes from prison where he has been for 15 years. He breaks into a house to look for money and guns and finds a young couple in bed.

He orders the guy out of bed and ties him to a chair. While tying the girl to the bed, he gets on top of her, kisses her neck, then gets up and goes into the bathroom, While he's in there, the husband tells his wife: "Listen, this guy's an escaped convict, look at his clothes. He probably spent lots of time in jail and hasn't seen a woman in years. I saw how he kissed your neck. If he wants sex, don't resist, don't complain, do whatever he tells you. Satisfy him no matter how much he nauseates you. This guy is very dangerous. If he gets angry, he'll kill us. Be strong honey, I love you."

The wife replies: "He wasn't kissing my neck. He was whispering in my ear. He told me he was gay, thought you were cute and asked if we had any vaseline. I told him it was in the bathroom. Be strong. honey. I love you too!!!

Movie Review 76: Identity
Mood:  down
On a rainy night, ten characters gather at a sleezy hotel. If you're thinking shades of Alfred Hitchcock's "Psycho", you're dead right. Of course, the victims are murdered one at a time. There are some very unusual twists, turns and coincidences, but that's it for the good points of this dark thriller.

The story is senselessly violent and the acting hammy. The plot careens along a path like a car out of control.

The murder mystery in this movie is solvable, but for some stupid reason no one solves it. There's no satisfying ending or conclusion. Hitchcock this ain't. Two stars.

My Favourite Brando Movie:The Wild One
Mood:  cool
Brando's "Wild One" set the stage for the anti-establishment movies that were to come later like Paul Newman's "Cool Hand Luke", Warren Beatty's "Bonnie and Clyde" and Peter Fonda's "Easy Rider".

Most of the World War Two generation was heavily into conformity and blind obedience to authority. The baby boomers changed much of that with their "do your own thing philosophy" which was reflected in the literature and movies of the time.

While many baby boomers ended up as part of the establishment, Brando always remained his own man and tried to look at the film industry without rose-coloured glasses.

I'm A Brando Fan Too
Mood:  sad
I liked Marlon Brando for a number of reasons. He was a fine actor who was didn't have acting pretensions or a big Hollywood ego.

He obviously didn't fit on any "A", "B" or "C" list. He was his own man on his own list.

In the Hollywood world of overhype and PR, Brando was a refreshing eccentric personality who did his best even on inferior material.

Movie Review 75: The Ice Storm
Mood:  down
There's such a great cast in such a bad movie. Unsympathetic characters focus on drug and sex, but not rock and roll in this tepid slice of life film in New England.

Not even Toby Maquire, as the super student philosopher, can save these victims of middle class self-indulgence.

One and a half stars. I liked Maquire's performance.

It Was A Tough Election To Sit Through
Mood:  surprised
Real democracy is tougher on the politicians than the voters. The separatists(Bloc Quebecois)won 54 seats.

Election Night In Canada
Mood:  d'oh
Fahrenheit/9/11 is number one at the boxoffice. Iraq has a new government and here in Canada I have a choice between three stooges for Prime Minister: Moe(Paul Martin)Larry(Jack Layton)and Curly(Stephen Harper) What a choice.

Looks like the Liberals will form the first minority Government in Canada in 25 years. Does anyone remember Joe Clark and the Conservative minority in 1979?

Endless Card Games
Mood:  vegas lucky
There's certain card games that I've played over a trillion times, both in this lifetime and in many other lifetimes.

I know that I don't like losing and deep down inside, I'd like to win "The Championship Of The Universe" in certain games like Euchre.

Have you ever felt the same way? Wouldn't you like to beat all contestants everywhere? What a challenge that would be.

Some of my favourite card games are listed below:
