Turn Your Radio On
Mood:  bright
Digital TV, radio and the internet may give us more access to information, music and movies than ever before, but it certainly doesn't connect us up with the spirit world.

Unfortunately, our physical body can only receive certain vibrational frequencies on earth. Even certain sounds are beyond our ability to hear them. Throughout the ages, spiritual travelers have developed their "mystical senses" to perceive God, the spirit world or the afterlife. Because these senses are anything but perfect in a human body, the perception of the supernatural and the paranormal can vary greatly from person to person.

Using the analogy of a radio, the physical senses could be considered the AM band and "the mystical senses of the soul" the FM band.

In the song, "Turn Your Radio On", the author is not talking about a physical electronic gadget. We all have our inner spiritual receiver, but we all don't tune into the same station.

Seen A Dentist Lately?
Mood:  don't ask
I have. I've just finished a rather painless root canal. It's relatively painless in the pocket book as well because both my plan and the wife's cover this procedure at 80%.

Unfortunately, I need two crowns which is only covered by my plan at 70%. Crowns in Canada can run over $2000 each. Getting both next year could "crown me" for $1800 and that is the biggest pain in dentistry these days.

Does anyone know a cheap dentist in the Toronto area that is good too? My dentist is the implant king of Ontario(Dr. Mark Kochman). He farms out work like "fillings" and "root canals" to junior dentists.

Saving The Memories Of A Lifetime
Back in the old days, memories were saved in letters, diaries, photos, collectibles, and favourite songs. Now letters and diaries have been replaced by e-mails and blogs, photos by jpegs and favourite songs by mp3 files. Even collectibles have found their place on internet auction sites like ebay. The ability to compress data into tiny units like bits and bytes has opened the door to "computerized memory salvation".
Perhaps, our whole lifetime can be downloaded into the memory banks of a super computer. Maybe it's here already.
We have been waiting for you Mr. Doe. Let us begin "The Procedure".

Number One At The Boxoffice: Texas Chainsaw Massacre
Mood:  loud
With the lack of original thrillers on the horizon, even yesterday's movie junkfood seems to look good. The cheap thrills in the first film seem to be even cheaper in the remake.(Read the reviews below.) We're getting closer to Halloween and I guess ole' Leatherface still scares teenage audiences with his chainsaw.

The Mysteries Behind Hotel California
This is a solvable puzzle, but no one so far has come close to what is behind the screenplay, Hotel California. Pretty good, eh? Nothing beats real life for a tough mystery. The clues are there. There's even a FAQ's page. Check it out:

Movie Review 50: One Magic Christmas
Mood:  hug me
This is a modern retelling of "It's A Wonderful Life" and "Scrooge". The situation with a poor family at Christmas may be depressing but it could get worse. The stark realism of poverty is contrasted by a child's wish for a magical Christmas. In the end, the movie succeeds because a child's dream touches her mother and that is very moving. Three and a half stars.

Top Ten Retirement Activities
It's never too early or too late to consider retirement options. After all, one should have life apart from one's day job. Here's my list:
1. Writing(Screenplays, books, blog enteries, etc.)
2. Webpages(Cyberspace is an expanding universe. One of these days, it'll be bigger than the Milky Way.)
3. "Work at" easy part-time jobs like movie extra or crossing guard
4. Karaoke DJ in old folks homes(Pandering to baby boomers who still think young)
5. Take up racket ball and other challenging sports that can make me or break me
6. Form a club that listens to and sees the best music and movies of all time
7. Go on Jeopardy and maybe win some money
8. Win at gambling dice games like craps and backgammon
9. Make first contact with aliens
10.Spend time studying and learning new things and developing new skills

Everyone would have a different list of things they would like to do when they retire. What is yours?

Dumb Joke Of The Week
Mood:  silly
This time it goes to Scott Adams, the creator of Dilbert. In today's comic strip, Dilbert and his female friend are finding out the identity of their headless colleague through his driver's licence that says his name is "Edward Mann". "Is his middle name, Lester?" suggests Dilbert. Yes, it is. Then he must be "Ed Les Mann" asserts Dilbert. What a groaner.

The Ontario Police Blitz On 1,500 Driving Turkeys
Mood:  energetic
Ontario police officers have written about 1,500 tickets so far during Operation Impact, a four-day blitz targeting seatbelt infractions, speeders and aggressive drivers. There has been no shortage of turkeys on Ontario highways this Thanksgiving weekend.

"One guy claimed he couldn't wear his seatbelt because he had just been to the dentist," police Sgt. Cam Woolley said last night .

Also, a 41-year-old Oakville man in a mini-van told officers he was such a good driver he didn't need to wear a seatbelt.

"He tried to convince the officer that his superior driving skills negated the need for a seatbelt," Woolley said. "He claimed he could predict and avoid any dangerous situation."

FEAR OF WIFE

Of course, the officer didn't buy it.

"She went back to her cruiser and was writing the man a ticket when a truck driver came around the corner and sideswiped the van," Woolley said.

"Nobody was hurt, but it certainly disproved the man's theory."

A Barrie man, 29, pleaded with an officer not to let his wife hear he had been caught driving his minivan on Hwy. 407 at 150 km/h with two toddlers in the back.

"He wasn't worried about the $350 ticket or the five demerit points. He was more worried that his wife would find out," Woolley said.

The Ontario police have reported no serious collisions on the 400-series highways in the Toronto area since the blitz began.
