Movie Review 33: Left Behind
This film is loosely based on "The Rapture"(Disappearance of the faithful before the end of the world)which is mentioned in the New Testament. Storyline tries too hard to stick to events revealed in "Revelations". Interesting development as to how poverty will be end and who does it. However, the Antichrist when he appears is anything but sinister. Two stars.

The Best And Worse Canadian Postal Strikes
Mood:  loud
The best: 1.1965-Posties strike over the right to strike and win it despite threats from the Pearson Government to fire them all. 2.1974-CUPW, the Canadian postal union lead an illegal strike to save the jobs of eight fired Montreal workers(They had a T-shirt on at work saying "Boycott The Postal Code." The union succeeded in getting their jobs back. 3.1981-After a six week strike, CUPW won maternity leave for its female members. This was the first win of its kind in Canada.

The worse: 1.1975-CUPW goes on strike for six weeks to get a raise that was superior to the letter carriers who were in a separate union at the time. The strike disintegrated when local presidents threatened to return to work. In the end, CUPW got the same raise as the letter carriers. 2.1978-Jean Claude Parrot went to jail for leading an illegal strike. Posties returned to work when threaten with dismissal. 3.1997-Daryl Tingley turned down an offer that required the next round of negotiation(2000)in order to get.
4.1987-Postie were ordered back to work a week after they went on strike. Nobody seemed impressed.
5.1991-Even rotating strikes didn't do the job, posties ordered back soon after. CUPW complained about the Government bailing out the corporation, but who cares? The US Post Office doesn't have the right to strike. Do you think that the US Posties have better pay and benefits than their Canadian counterparts?

Canada Post Negotiations
Mood:  spacey
While Canada Post's first global offer doesn't meet all of CUPW's basic requirements, it does set the stage for a negotiated settlement without a postal strike. In a climate of SARS, Mad Cow disease, and other labour strife(like the Ontario Catholic teacher's lockout), this should make many Canadians happy and FEDX and UPS unhappy.

Linking Software Still Doesn't Work
Mood:  irritated
The linking software in the blog still doesn't work, so I'll have to postpone links to "Ten Weird Websites" until then. It really is too much work for me and you to write down URLs without being able to use them directly.

Can't Put Links Into My Blog, Why?
Mood:  blue
I can't seem to put any links into my blog. The program just seems to freeze up. Anyone out there with similiar problems? Have to get technical support I guess.

Movie Review 32: Payback
In this gritty film noire comedy, Mel Gibson, a small time hood, is the best of a sorry lot. In the end, he gets what is rightfully his and the crooked cops and the gangsters get what is rightfully theirs. I never thought "payback" could be so much fun, but it is in this movie. Three stars.

Movie Review 31: Meet The Parents
Mood:  happy
When the hero, Gaylord Focker(Ben Stiller), has to impress his fiancee's father, a former CIA agent(Robert DeNiro), you probably know that anything that can go wrong will go wrong. Focker(Fucker?) lives up to his name in grand hilarious style. Although some of the gags are predictable, the actors obviously had a ball picking on nurse and cat milker, Ben Stiller. Three and a half stars.
