My Mother's 80th Birthday
Mood:  celebratory
Doreen Mary Barron celebrated her birthday today in her son's home in Brampton, Ontario. This was the first time all the Barrons have been together since their nephew's wedding two years ago.
It was also the first time David's mother and two brother visited his five level backsplit.
Needless to say, there was more alcohol and food than anyone could consume. That just tells you we're all getting older and we just can't party like we did 20 years ago.

My Top Ten High Energy Rock Songs Of All Time
Mood:  caffeinated
Rock and roll has been around for 50 years and fortunately, I was there to see some high octane performances at the beginning. When I first saw Elvis on the Dorsey Show do "Tutti Fruiti", I knew that this was youthful crazy music.

After listening to thousands of rock songs here are my high energy favourites. Feel free to give me your list.
1. Devil With The Blue Dress On/Mitch Ryder and the Detroit Wheels
2. Jailhouse Rock/Elvis Presley
3. The Fly/Chubby Checker
4. Bad To The Bone/George Thorogood And The Destroyers
5. I Love Rock And Roll/Joan Jett And The Blackhearts
6. Believe/Cher
7. We're Not Going To Take It Anymore/Twisted Sister
8. Shook Me All Night Long/ACDC
9. Angel Of Harlem/U2
10.Roll Over Beethoven/The Beatles

Please Songwriting Idol/ Not Karaoke Idol!!!
Mood:  down
Canadian Idol is quickly becoming good karaoke versus bad karaoke. Yes, even the background arrangements are prerecorded.

What can you say about this show and other "Idol" shows on planet earth? It's very difficult to make hits out of earlier hits. Usually, a good creative singer trys to make a hit out of something that was a flop like "Mandy" by Barry Manlilow: Flop for someone else, a hit for Barry.

However, on yesterday's variety TV shows like "American Bandstand" and "The Ed Sullivan Show" singers became a success by introducing new material that was really great. This includes Elvis, The Beatles and just about anyone who had a catchy tune.

Original material that is performed on Idol shows appears to be under 1 per cent.

Having sung in many karaoke contests myself, I know there are many good singers but few good songs.

What the music business needs are artists who can blow an audience away with original music that is either sung by themselves or others. This was a successful formula by songwriters in the Brill building, Motown, Nashville and England.

What about a new reality show called "Songwriting Idol?" Sounds great, but I believe the people who control the recording industry are convinced that "Idol Karaoke" will be their salvation. What do you think?
Drop me a line.

Movie Review 78: Women Vs Men
Two husbands cheat on their wives by going to a strip bar and then participating in lap dances. They try to justify it, but the wives don't buy the entertainment explanations.

Shallow story line has some hilarious moments with a superstud friend in a loin cloth who tries to straighten things out between the husbands and wives. Two and a half stars.

The Village Is Number One At The Boxoffice
Mood:  spacey
Despite many negative reviews, The Village finished first at the boxoffice this weekend. Whatever the flaws were in this film, it didn't deter a young audience from seeing it.

There is an appetite for original mystery thrillers in different audiences which isn't being fulfilled by sequels or remakes of hit movies.

It's called "Ride-On Mower".

Those Newfys are smart buy.

Does it come with a case of Canadian or Moosehead beer?

Was I Born Or Hatched?
If you want to know when I was born, and what was going on then, here's a great headline from that time.

Look this history up on the internet.

Movie Review 77: The Jolson Story
Not accurate as a biography, but accurate in its depiction of the progress of popular music from Stephen Foster, through ragtime, through jazz, through swing and then into the easy listening ballards of the late 40s.

Al Jolson was the first pop star of African-American influenced music. His very original and theatrical performances shouldn't be missed. Three stars.

Our Favourite Canadian Idol
Mood:  special
Our favourite singer on Canadian Idol is Jason Greeley. Sure he's a dynamic rock performer with good looks, but he's also from Newfoundland AND related to my wife, Irene(3rd or 4th cousin).

If you were from Newfoundland would you vote for anyone else??? Who???

Www.qualteam.on.ca has become www.qualteam.info
Mood:  irritated
I had a nightmare trying to renew our business website with the domain name: qualteam.on.ca.

Domain hosting is so much easier and cheaper in the US. Our business webpage is now located at www.qualteam.info.

A domain address simply makes it easier to remember and reach a certain webpage.
