UNCONDITIONAL LOVE
A story is told about a soldier who was finally coming home after having fought in Vietnam. He called his parents from San Francisco. "Mom and Dad, I'm coming home, but I've a favor to ask. I have a friend, I'd like to bring home with me." "Sure," they replied, "we'd love to meet him." "There's something you should know," the son continued, "He was hurt pretty badly in the fighting. He stepped on a land mine and lost an arm and a leg. He has nowhere else to go, and I want him to come live with us." "I'm sorry to hear that son. Maybe, we can help him find somewhere to live." "No, mom and dad, I want want him to live with us." "Son", said the father, "you don't know what you're asking. Someone with such a handicap would be a terrible burden on us. We have our own lives to live, and we can't let something like this interfere with our lives. I think you should just come home and forget about this guy. He find a way to live on his own." At this point, the son hung up the phone. The parents heard nothing more from him. A few days later, they received a call from the San Francisco police. Their son had died after falling from a building, they were told. The police believed it was suicide. The grief-stricken parents flew to San Francisco and were taken to the city morgue to identify the body of their son. They recognized him, but to their horror they also discovered something they didn't know, their son had only one arm and one leg.

The parents in this story are like many of us. We find it easy to love those who are good-looking or fun to have around, but we don't like people who inconvenience us or make us feel uncomfortable. We would rather stay away from people who aren't as healthy, beautiful or smart as we are.

Thankfully, there's someone who won't treat us that way. Someone who loves us with an unconditional love that welcomes us into the forever family, regardless of how messed up we are.

Tonight, before you tuck yourself in for the night, say a little prayer that God will give you the strength you need to accept people as they are, and to help us all be more understanding of those who are different from us.

There's a miracle called friendship that dwells in the heart. You don't know how it happens or when it gets started, but you know the special lift it always brings. Friendship is God's most precious gift.

Friends are a very rare jewel, indeed. They make us smile and encourage us to succeed. They lend an ear, they share a word of praise, and they always want to open their hearts to us.

Please share this story with others.

Concert Review: Freddie Cannon, The Crystals, Lou Christie
Mood:  a-ok
Almost three hours of 50s and 60s rock and roll by the original artists is pretty good for a 35 dollar admission charge. The Crystals were especially good doing their own hits as well as cover versions of songs from the Andrew Sisters(1940s)to The Jackson Five(1970s). Three and a half stars.

Time For A Vacation
With the snow starting to fly and the winds becoming colder, it's time for a vacation at a warm ball-busting resort like Hotel California, Arizona. True it's dangerous and scary, but everyone needs a challenge in order to grow and learn new things.

Do you believe that sooner or later, we all go there anyway? Why not sooner?

In Flanders Fields
In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved, and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.

Number One At The Box Office: Matrix Revolutions
Despite bad reviews and the obvious exploitation of the Matrix audience and its story line, "Matrix Revolutions" was number one at the box office.

As I have said in my blog before, there is a big audience for this kind of science fiction that stresses altered realities and complex games. Many of us want to go to strange worlds that challenge our senses and our minds.

Movie Review 53: Analyze This
Mood:  caffeinated
Mobster, Robert De Niro discovers his sensitive side with the help of shrink, Billy Crystal. Basically, a spoof on gangster movies. Very talkative film and not everything between De Niro and Crystal is funny or meaningful, but there's enough fun to enjoy the movie. Two and half stars.

The Gehenna Funhouse
Is hell simply a terrifying funhouse left over from a civilization so old that no records of it remain?

Clarissa Paisley, my internet chess buddy, recently had this dream about such a place. This is her nightmare website:

Katimavik(Native-American Meeting Place)
"This is incredible! The area bounded by the Native-American Burial Grounds in the west and the hotel in the east was once a mystical portal where spirits, humans and extraterrestrials met. The place was called "Katimavik", but the natives nearby were not aware of its existence. I sensed that they and their ancestors had forgotten about it. I don't know why such a fantastic mythology disappeared from their memories, but I'm going to find out soon."

Peter Meade, Founder of the Brotherhood of Spiritual Enlightenment: circa June 1997.

The Bad Guys At Hotel California
In the shadowy spaces of Area 53/Hotel California, the night creatures dwell. Who are they and what do they look like? Supposedly, they can manipulate reality for anyone who visits there.

Challenging murder mystery games have always been part of the hotel's vacation packages, but what is really going on? Do the Native-American spirits of Katimavik have any answers? Is there a disaffected insider who can provide information?

It becomes obvious that a fate worse than death await those who succumb to insidious powers of the caretakers.
