Top Facts About Ontario's Debt/Deficit

Since 1990, Ontario's debt has increased from 38 billion to 300 billion in 2014. There were three different governments during that time: Bob Rae's NDP, Mike Harris' Conservatives and McGuinty's/Wynne's Liberals. There's even a wikipedia entry on Ontario's debt as it increased year by year.

There should have been a debate or, at least, an attempt by the politicians of the three parties to enlighten the public on the size of the debt and how it compares to other states/provinces and what can be done about it.

Here are the top facts:

  1. The Premier of Quebec, Phillippe Couillard, is taking decisive action against Quebec's Debt.  What is Kathleen Wynne's plan? I didn't hear much about it during the election.
  2. Ontario's "revenue to debt total" is worse than any other province including Quebec.
  3. Ontario's debt is worse that California's.
  4. Servicing Ontario's debt is the fourth largest expense in the budget.
  5. Debt servicing costs are monies that aren't going to health care, roads, education, etc. Debt servicing cost is the millstone around the government's neck.
  6. A quick overview of Ontario's debt compared to the other provinces.
  7. A look at "The 2012 Drummond Report" that suggested solutions to Ontario's debt problems.
  8. Are Ontario governments addicted to debt???
  9. Ontario's debt burden keeps getting worse.
Hopefully, these debt/deficit problems can be handled over the next four years. At least, by then, we should know where we're going on this huge issue.

The Anti Deficit Crusade, Then And Now

In the early 1990s, another guy and I started "The Anti Deficit Crusade" with the Federal Government. This was in response to "Mulroney's huge deficit" during his two terms in office.

We did research in newspapers and magazines and sent our results to MPs in Ottawa. I joined the federal Liberal party and supported Paul Martin for leader. Jean Chretien won the leadership race, but the anti-deficit campaign had some firm believers like Paul Martin. He would later become finance minister and wrestle the deficit to the ground.

The deficit didn't just handle itself, Martin brought in fiscal restraints through cuts and tighter money management.

In Ontario there is a major deficit problem as well, but there has been no decision as to what to do with it.

Back in 2012, "The Drummond Report" laid out suggestions, but the Liberal response was something like this:

The Globe and Mail is a little pessimistic over this situation and probably there is cause to be that way.

In the last election, there wasn't much information distributed with regards to this problem even from the Conservatives. I had to find out about it on the internet.

We have to start at "Deficits 101" and proceed from there. In order to solve a problem, you have to be aware that there is a problem.

To begin with, there has to be more full-time decent paying jobs in Ontario. The bottom line, this province has to be attractive for companies to invest in, so tax revenues will go up.

The Top Ten Reasons To Not Vote For The Ontario Liberals

I could only find one website that had "The Top Ten Reasons For Voting Liberal". It was a bit of a hoot. Nothing like a little humor to relieve the tedium of all those attack ads. I've written some tweets about those ads.

I did find one website that had 101 reasons not to vote Liberal. That's a bit of an overkill. There's also instructions from the National Post on "How to Decline you Ballot Without Spoiling It".

Here's my top ten reasons for not voting Liberal.

  1. With billions wasted on the gas plants and the E-health fiascos, the Liberals don't deserve another term in office.
  2. The NDP are a better safer choice, fiscally responsible but not too right-wing.
  3. The Liberals have not discussed their plans for job creation or the reduction of hydro rates.
  4. The Liberals are getting too much support from the unions.(Attack ads, etc.)
  5. The Liberals have not commented on concerns with "The Sunshine List" or "The Bloated Bureauracy".
  6. Instead of promoting their record, the Liberals have depended on negative attack ads against the Conservatives to get them votes.(Fearmongering)
  7. The Liberals appear more left wing than the NDP.
  8. The Liberals lost the leader's debate earlier in the month.
  9. A vote for the Liberals is a vote for the same crap over the last three years.
  10. A stiff new broom sweeps clean. Time for the "McWynnety Liberals" to become history.
I said this before, but voters can protest against the Liberals without voting Conservative: (A) Voting NDP or (B) Not voting at all.

My Top Ten Tweets On The Ontario Election June/12/14

Over the last few weeks, I've had much to say about the upcoming Ontario election.

I've looked over my tweets on the subject and here are what I consider my best ones:

  1. The Ontario PCs seem to be the only party with a job-creation plan. Better some plan than no plan.
  2. Mayor Rob Ford won on a platform of "Ending the Gravy Train in Toronto". The PCs want to cut "Ontario's Bloated Bureaucracy".This is a gravy train with another name.
  3. A vote for the NDP leader, Andrea Horwath, isn't a vote for the PCs. She's a fiscally responsible socialist like Tommy Douglas
  4. The Liberals look like Santa Claus and the PCs look like Scrooge. Sometimes the voters need a cold shower.
  5. The "new" Ontario Liberals are following the path of the "old" Liberals. They'll say or do anything to get elected.
  6. I'm a small "c" conservative, but I like Andrea Horwath's shift to the centre. Less ideology and more practically.
  7. Which party or leader could handle Ontario's escalating deficit? Who's up to this challenge?
  8. Anyone who wants to cut the fat on Ontario's "Sunshine List" can't be all bad. Bring on the meat cleaver.
  9. Ontario needs more politicians like former premier, Bill Davis. He ran a good ship.
  10. On twitter and on my blog, I've tried to make myself and others aware of the issues in the Ontario election. Become informed and vote intelligently.

The leaders debate is on Tuesday/03/14 at 6:30 P.M. Hopefully, you'll find someone or some party to vote for or its "none of the above".

Ontario's Escalating Debt: An Ongoing Concern

For the last twenty-five years, all of Ontario's political parties have failed to handle its escalating debt. Particularly, this included Bob Rae's NDPMike Harris's Conservatives and Dalton McGuinty's Liberals.

This has lead to a threat from Moody's the international credit rating agency to lower Ontario's credit rating. That would mean that more of our tax dollars would go to cover the interest on a 300 billion dollar deficit.

All three parties were responsible for creating this horrible debt, and all three parties could be forced to deal with it whether or not they wanted to.

It should be noted that on a federal level, Paul Martin in the 1990s corrected the escalating deficit in Canada. Sometimes, you have to make tough decisions to get your financial house in order.

Who's going to do it in Ontario?

The Ontario Provincial Election: There's Really Only Two Choices

Back in 1993, the Mulroney Government got only two seats after "The Meech Lake Fiasco". A few years later in New Brunswick, a corrupt Conservative Party lead by Richard Hatfield was wiped out in the province.

Shouldn't the same fate happen to the Ontario Liberal Party after the financial debacles of "The Gas Plants""E-Health" and "Ornge Air Ambulance".

Added to the above are the Liberal's poor record on "The Deficit" and "Ontario Job Creation and Preservation"

Kathleen Wynne should be looking for new job. Perhaps, driving a tractor would be more her speed.

The choices are Tim Hudak's Conservatives and Andrea Horwath's NDP. Both have shown signs that they will be fically responsible in power. Horwath wants to reduce hydro bills. Hudak wants to create jobs with small businesses and in the northern "Ring of Fire" area.

Having worked at the Post Office and with Canada Customs, I know that large businesses and government departments can be overstaffed and full of red tape. My own section of the Post Office was reduced by half without any change in the productivity of our unit.

The idea of leaner more efficient government departments is a good goal to work towards.

"Rae Days"  are another way of reducing the cost of government without laying off a lot of people.

Right leaning Liberal votes would go the Conservatives and left leaning Liberal votes would go to the NDP.

The decimination of the Liberal party would be a warning to any government of any stripe that corruption and financial irresponsibility will not be tolerated.

P.S. A third choice is the Green party or "None Of The Above".

A New View On The Bible's "Book of Revelation"

When I was a teenager, I first got interested in "The Book Of Revelation"from a radio program called "The World Tomorrow by Herbert W. Armstrong".

Here was a man who sounded like he had decoded the most mysterious book in the Bible. I would listen "rapturously" to the preacher who talked like he knew things about the future that no one else knew.

I guess this was on the same order of magnitude when the allies broke, the Nazi's "Enigma Coding Machine"

Recently, I saw an H2 documentary on "God vs Satan". The subtitle of this doc could have been "Getting Even" or "Taking Everlasting Revenge On Your Enemies". This is something like an "Annunaki Comic Book" where all the ancient gods fight to become number one on Earth.

An early Christian sect called "The Gnostics" was wary of organized religion and its attempt to dogmatize religious beliefs. They discovered an evil force called "The Archons" was attempting to take over the church and mankind. These Archons looked very much like "Grays and Reptilians"

Jesus Christ was not part of those groups who were determined to keep mankind ignorant and under their thumbs as docile easy controlled followers. If the Annunaki return to Earth again, many of us will be ready for them.

I believe that The Book Of Revelation is a warning to anyone who wants to enslave mankind through thought control (The "They Live" scene above is a great example of that).

If you had a battle plan to triumph over your enemies, you wouldn't reveal it to them. The Book of Revelation is also a coded message to the special planetary defense arm of "The Christ Continum"(See the blog entries under "Cosmic Views Of The Universe"). I don't believe that any human including me is able to crack this code.

Hangar One: The UFO Disclosure Project

Many Ufologists have been pressuring the U.S. Government to disclose what they know about UFOs. Distressed by the many delays and denials from the Government, MOFON (the UFO data collection agency) has started its own disclosure project on H2 called "Hangar One".

I seen three episodes already dealing with "U.S. presidential knowledge of UFOs""underground bases run by aliens and scientists","reverse engineering projects on alien "gifts" and space ships".

The last episode of UFO Hunters was so controversial that the show was cancelled immediately.

I believe that "Hangar One" is one way to unofficially disclose some of the information the U.S. Government knows but is unwilling to tell us directly. Much of this information is also widely distributed on the internet.

Many of us have been exposed to Star Trek/Star Wars and sci/fi aliens of every make, breed and variety. Thousands have been abducted by some of these aliens.

Many alien groups have been around for thousands of years.

I'm sure that many of us have past life memories of being somewhere else besides Earth.

Earth may not only a nice place to visit, but a nice place to stay as well.

Welcome to the galactic neighbourhood.

The Walking Dead Marathon 2014

Every since I was a teenager, I've been a fan of the horror/thriller genre. I've also been a big fan of the zombie sub genre. Three of my favourite were "Dawn of the Dead, 1978", "Return of the Living Dead" and "Zombieland".

When "The Walking Dead" came along a few years ago, I watched it with great anticipation. There were some great shocks in the first episodes plus some pretty good action scenes with the zombies, however as the series progressed, the show became a survival epic for the main characters with no development of stories lines relating to religious, political, and military themes. I found the various soap opera subplots tedious because of the lack of humor and insight.

This weekend, I took a second look at the series in an AMC marathon that took me through seasons one to four. I discovered that certain humans and groups were worse than the zombies, even children under these circumstances would act badly. It was shocking and revolting.

Rick and his group still hung together trying to find a safe place not just from walkers, but from scum bags of the Earth who want to kill and even eat them. Check out "The Season Four Finale" about "Terminus".

The best thing about this series are the action scenes with the zombies and the bad guys plus the heroic acts of Rick and his group.

However, the series does suffer from excessive gore in the killing of zombies and humans. The shock value decreases with each repetition.

Will the U.S. with its mighty weapons ever show up to protect its population? Will a zombie master be revealed in the near future? Will the major characters debate about the reality of their situation? Are they in Hell? Are aliens or mad scientists behind this epidemic. Are they in an alternate reality, where the goal is to become "The Zombie Killing King"? Will anyone discover some dark humor is these situations?

To keep my attention the series will have to change into a mystery thriller with some complicated story lines and plot twists.

I getting tired of the many scenes where zombies get their heads smashed in.

Maybe "Season Five" will become "Lost Meets The Walking Dead".

It's been A Long Cold Winter, Thank God, It's Spring

Yes, spring has arrived, but Old Man Winter is late in leaving because hearty Canadians love the cold and snow.

It may have been bad in the Greater Toronto Area, but it was colder in Winnipeg (coldest in 35 years) and snowier in Newfoundland (try to locate the house in the snowdrifts).

Toronto did have "36 extreme cold day alerts"(a record) and an ice storm at the end of December.(Check out the slideshow from Brampton and other cities)

When I lived in Barrie, as a young lad, there were snowdrifts that almost reached the tops of telephone poles. This is Canada, eh! Sometimes you have to travel with snowshoes or dogsleds. Why get miserable about the weather? It doesn't do any good.

The couple above are enjoying a Canadian spring day with some steak and wine. Wimps ask "Why"? True Canucks say "Why not"?
