The Critics Rant About "Van Helsing"
Mood:  silly
But the movie's still going to be number one at the box office this week.

The story looks campy with its special effects and corny dialogue. Van Helsing is the orginal male "Buffy The Vampire Slayer". It also looks similiar to "Abbott And Costello Meet Frankenstein".

With X-man, Hugh Jackman, tossed in for good measure, how can it lose?

First Contact With Aliens
There are many of us on the planet who are willing to contact aliens. Our conditions would be simple: no brainwashing, no abductions, no memory shutdowns, no illusions. The media and planetary governments would not be involved in this plan.

In exchange for our best artistic works and ideas, the extraterrestials would give us the technology we need to survive this century(e.g. the secrets of cheap energy, cheap food, cheap health care and cheap environmental cleanups, etc.)

We're not trying to steal their weapons and/or spaceships. That's why we'll keep these first meetings from the prying eyes of the media and government agencies for a long time.

Following the initial encounters, there would be direct communication with the peoples of earth via the internet with the help of cyber ambassadors. What do you think?

Movie Review 69: Unbreakable
This film has a great deal of potential concerning gifted individuals who are good or bad, but the story and the characters just develop too slowly.

What cartoonist makes heroes and villians in real life and will you ever meet him? Two stars.

Wait Until Next Year
Mood:  hug me
Despite a rousing comeback in the 3rd period, the Toronto Maple Leafs(Laughs?)went down to defeat in overtime. The score was close 3 to 2 but the Leafs were done like dinner. They could have come out fighting but they fell behind early, caught up in the 3rd and then tired quickly in overtime. Two Stars, but I'm still a Leaf fan.

I'll Always Be A Leaf Fan
As long as I can remember, I've been a Toronto Maple Leaf fan. Through thick and thin, Toronto fans have supported the Leafs. While the latest elderly edition is good, I don't think they have the legs to win the Stanley Cup this year. They should win tonight's game. I've bet $10 that they will. Unfortunately, the seventh game is back in Philly and the Spectrum has been a graveyard for Toronto teams since the 70s. Please note that the Hockey Hall of Fame is in Toronto.

The Best Moments Of Our Newfoundland Trip
The best moments of our trip occurred when the Noseworthy clan and spouses visited their 83 year old mother(mother-in-law)in an Alzheimer's ward in a St. John's hospital. Irene and I were there with four brothers and their wives.

One brother(Joe)who is a deacon at an Anglican church in Ontario gave communion to everyone in attendance including his mother. It was very moving. For a brief second, the older Irene seemed to recognize who was in the room, but she couldn't communicate to anyone.

I believe that this was the first time in fifteen years that the brothers and Irene saw their mother together.

It was an error of omission not to write about this gathering earlier. I'm sure that many of you have had meaningful family reunions in the past.

Movie Review 68: The Haunted Mansion
Mood:  a-ok
It's been awhile since I enjoyed a good movie, but I enjoyed this one. Sure it could have been scarier or funnier, but it did have a good story and great special effects.

Instead of the usual Saturday Night Live shtick, Eddie Murphy actually played a character in a ghostly adventure that was believable. Three stars.

Why do I blog?
I love giving my two cents worth on any subject in the universe. I love expressing my cosmic view of life. I love communicating fun stuff to others and getting feedback. If I can dish it out, I should be able to take it. Through the flotsam and jetsam of my life, I try to select those things that mean the most to me. This includes jokes and cartoons. Every day is different and I try to find something that we can both enjoy for tomorrow.

Do you have a blog? Let me know and I'll check it out.

My "A List" Dentist
Mood:  don't ask
We all know that as a movie star gets more famous, he moves up in ranking to where he can get 20 million a picture. This is the so-called "A-List" system of stardom. It's a kind of caste system which rewards luck at the boxoffice and penaltizes non-luck in the same place.

Dentists too have a ranking system and my specialist is probably the best known tooth artist in Canada. He only does crowns and implants. This is the "A-List Work" in dentistry. His examination of my teeth today could cost me another mortgage on my house.

Obviously, I'll have find another qualified dentist that hasn't hit the big time yet. Who would you suggest in Brampton, Ontario?

Website Of The Week
Mood:  cool
Yesterday, I discovered another website that wasn't stuck in medievel visions of heaven, hell and purgatroy. The people who run it are pretending to be beings/aliens from another world who are connecting with earth. That's O.K. This is simply a way of communicating that they are divinely inspired in the 21st century. If you believe that all heavenly inspiration ended in the first century AD, then this site is not for you. It has cool new age polls as well.
