South Park Goes After Canada Again
"Blame Canada" I'm sure you heard of the song that received an academy award nomination a couple of years ago. Now, the producers of South Park have a season's finale on the comedy network(Feb/13) called "Christmastime In Canada".

Here's Matt Stone's explanation for this satire:
"The episode is a homage to The Wizard of Oz, the idea being that Canada is a foreign, bizarre place...and just asserting that Canada is this totally strange fantasy place. The kids travel down Canada's "only road", through Quebec and Newfoundland, before eventually finding Parliament Hill and the Prime Minister."

Maybe Matt was visiting our webpages and got inspired to go on his own "Katimavik/Hotel California" journey.

The Top Ten Financial Definitions
Mood:  accident prone
1. Stock Split: Think of pizza slices as a 2 for 1 stock split--you get twice as many pieces of the same pie and so you feel richer.
2. Market Correction: What the markets do the day after you buy stocks.
3. P/E Ratio: Better known as the panic/exit ratio. Fund managers use this number to calculate the time for all the unit holders to bail out of the fund.
4. Momentum Investing: The art of buying high and selling lower.
5. Value Investing: The art of buying lower and selling lower.
6. Cash Flow: The movement of money from a mutual fund to the fund manager. Sometimes called management fees, or management expense ratios(MERs).
7. Day Trader: The opportunity to lose large amounts of money over short time periods.
8. Stock: A magical piece of paper that is worth more when the economy is good and then worth less when the economy is really good.
9. Trailer Fees: The money you pay to your financial planner to buy and never sell.
10. Financial Advice: For every adviser, there exists an equal and opposite adviser.

When It Comes To Family The Weather Doesn't Count
Today, despite the snow storm in central Ontario my wife(Irene)and I visited her daughter(Roxane)in a Barrie hospital. Her daughter had just finished serious surgery. On the way back, we encountered blizzard conditions which we successfully navigated through. Here's what it looked like on the road.

Santa Mail/2003/In Canada
Here were some interesting facts behind Santa mail that was delivered to Canada Post.
1. 95,500 letters were received and answered in the Greater Toronto Area(GTA).
2. 450 volunteers(some of them posties)in the GTA answered those letters.
3. 3,971 letters were received from foreign counties.
4. 42 countries sent letters to Canada for responses.

As one of Santa's helpers at Canada Post, I would like to thank everyone who mailed a letter to dear old St. Nick. Thanks for the presents too. It helped us get lots of overtime.

I've decided to name our new newfy pooch "Blacksmith" because every time somebody rings the bell, he makes a bolt for the door.
Do you think I should name him something else?

The Butterfly Effect Number One At The Boxoffice
Mood:  cheeky
As predicted on Friday, despite bad reviews, "The Butterfly Effect" was number one at the boxoffice. Well done for those who had the guts to do this story.

Films should be made for general audiences who are looking for something different and thrilling rather than for artsy, fartsy critics. Any decently or sometimes not so decently made sci/fi, horror, thriller usually does well at the boxoffice.

It should be noted that our screenplay, Hotel California falls into the above genres with lots of mystery added. It's also based on real events and real people.

It's Still A Cold One In Ontario
Sometimes it feels like Newfoundland here. Now, I know why the Vikings left. They weren't real Newfies. Pass me a Canadian(beer)buy.
