Happy New Year
Mood:  hug me
We had a great time at a Newfoundland Pub called "Eastern Passage" in Brampton. The number of Newfies in Brampton, Ontario is almost as many as those in Newfoundland. We got to see the New Year come in twice, once in St. John's NFLD and the other in Brampton(Please note that Newfoundland is the first North American area to welcome the New Year. It's a half hour ahead of Altantic Time). Derek Pilgrim ,despite his heavy cold, played his Newfoundland and Country Music very well. My wife also won a Newfoundland clock which is shaped like the island. All the best for 2004, may the wind at your back be your own.

Joke Of The Week
A patient was seeing his doctor about a sore throat.
"Gargle 12 times a day with Newfie Screech", the doctor instructed. "Will that make my sore throat better?" replied the patient. "No, but it'll make you forget your problem."

Movie Review 58: The Road To Bali
While Bing Crosby and Bob Hope are delightful in the song/dance numbers and some comedy routines, the picture suffers because of an insipid story line that seems like an afterthought(i.e. Deep sea diving for(the family?)jewels). Most of this stuff is TV skit material that gets thin quickly. Two stars.

Have Happy Boxing Day
Mood:  lucky
It's now time "to fight" for the best deal that one can get on consumer products. Fight the retail stores and the manufacturers: not other customers. That isn't how "Boxing Day" got its name, but I like the above definition anyway. May you end up a winner today and during "Boxing Day Week and "Boxing Day Month".

An old miser discovers the meaning of Christmas after encounters with four spirits(Marley included). Still the best Christmas movie ever made. Wonderful performance by Alastair Sim as Scrooge. Four stars

The Christmas Story(Meeting Jesus)

When I was 7 or 8, I saw my first Christmas story at Holly public school near Barrie Ontario. While Christ's birth was an interesting story in itself, it was the carols that seem to bring the play to life. It's as if we were all there in Bethlehem 2000 years ago.

All Good Christmas music, right up to "The Christmas Shoes" seems to evoke a real emotional event. Indeed, it seems that memory can be stimulated by compelling lyrics and melodies. What do you think?

A Vision Of Christmas World

The first heaven of Jesus Christ was created from the hopes of dreams of children. Children have an incredible perception of a world where peace, magic and Santa Claus exists. To an adult population, this intuitive sense of an eternal reality is trivialized as mere fantasy. Yet the Christmas traditions of gifts, lights, carols and magical elves endure like none other.

The desire of most of us is to create a world where "Peace On Earth And Good Will Towards Man", actually exists. That place isn't present time Earth but it's the first heaven of Christ. We contact some part of it at Christmas time each year.
