Patrick Swayze was in one of my favourite movies of all time: Ghost. While other actors have done well in playing ghosts, Patrick made the afterlife come alive with personal intensity and heightened reality. Who can forget the scene in the New York subway where Patrick learned how to move objects without a body part? One of Ghost's most memorable lines came from that scene: Subway Spirit (Vincent Schiavelli): "Ahh what I wouldn't give for a drag! Just one drag!".
Ghost probably has the most moving ending of any movie in recent history. I cried many tears when Patick said goodbye to Demi for the last time. Even without "Unchained Melody", the ending was and still is a "Ten Kleenex Event".
I would like to point out that Patrick didn't want to be typed cast as a romantic leading man. He turned down 7 million dollars to play in a sequel to "Dirty Dancing". He preferred character parts with a tough edge. Maybe most of his movies weren't hits, but he achieved satisfaction in doing them.
The best tributes came from Partick's co-stars in Ghost:
"Patrick was a really good man, a funny man and one to whom I owe much that I can't ever repay. I believe in 'Ghost's' message, so he'll always be near." - Whoopi Goldberg
(Demi Moore): "Patrick you are loved by so many and your light will forever shine in all of our lives..."And in the words of Sam to Molly. "It's amazing Molly. The love inside, you take it with you."I love and will miss you Patrick."
