What Do You Want To See This Summer?

Probably, some big adventure movie like Superman.

Yesterday, my doctor's receptionist(Bernadette) validated my story-telling skills by telling me, she wasted her time at the theatre by seeing something called "The Break-Up". She left the movie thinking about how she'd like to see my pet project "Hotel California."

Hotel California is my great personal spiritual journey/adventure in the tradition of "Raider's of the Lost Ark" and "Field of Dreams." It's not a sequel or a remake of some big Hollywood blockbuster.

It is possible for a writer to mine material out of his/her own life and imagination.

Movie Review 103: Miss Congeniality

a-ok
Personally, I thought this was the best thing, Sandra Bullock has ever done. The plot seems to get lost every now and then, but the laughs don't and there's lots of them.

There seems to be a crazy side to beauty contests and this story taps into it. Everyone seems to be having a good time including Candice Bergen and William Shatner.

There was, also, a moving feel-good ending that satisfied the sensitive side of my nature. Three stars.

Alien Website Of The Month

This webpage was probably made by an illegal alien who didn't have his proper papers. He may be from another country or another planet.

In order to enter the US, he needs a valid passport. However, if he's a diplomat, he could get diplomatic immunity.

If he's revealed confidential secrets, he could be arrested for spying.

Who knows? He has an interesting viewpoint on the Roswell incident.

Screenwriting Software Of The Week

Tonight, I downloaded "Great Dialogue Software" from the website at the bottom of this post.

I've always enjoyed great dialogue in screenplays or stageplays. Stuff like:

"I never met a dame that didn't understand a slap on the face or a slug from a forty-five." Play it Again Sam, by Woody Allen

"What we have here is a failure to communicate" Cool Hand Luke with Paul Newman.

"I can't beat him. I just want to go the distance."
Sly Stallone's Rocky.

"I could have of been somebody. I could have been a fighter." Marlon Brando's On the Waterfront.

The software is $19.95 US and I'm looking forward to using it.

Movie Review 102: Hoodwinked

down
Animated retelling of the fairy tale starts as a dumb unfunny parody of the Red-Riding story told from different viewpoints.

Half-way through, the film turns into a crime mystery action flick which is entertaining, but doesn't save the movie.

About thirty minutes into it, I wanted to turn it off. Two stars.

At Hotel California death isn't the end. It's a new beginning.
Below is the new logline for Hotel California. It's like expressing what it's about in 25 words or less. It isn't easy to do.

TV Series Review: Ghost Whisperer

This is the first TV series since Star Trek: Voyager that I've become involved in.

Certainly, it's not "Spooks On The Loose" or "Things from the Grave."

The ghosts are sympathetic characters that are often hung up on incomplete communications with the living. That was true about tonight's show, "Pilot". He died before he could see or talk to his son.

The son, genuinely, missed his father and relied only on his late mother's experiences in order to know anything about his dad.

Jennifer Love Hewitt(the medium)brings them together, of course, for a meaningful family moment.

I am aware that there can be contact between spirits and human beings. Why shouldn't there be?

Maybe in the future, a computer interface will be built to establish a connection between the physical world and the spiritual one.

The TV show rates three and half stars with me. There could be more and better special effects, but the show is character driven.

Changes Should Improve Some Condition
If anything can be improved, it should be. That includes resumes, loglines, synopsises, webpage forwarding and your own personal life.

Changes, however, that makes a resume or logline, etc. worse should be quickly rejected. I've found that failed "experts" are the worse kind because they give advice that make an artist fail.

However, there was room for improvement in some areas and I'm going to check it out with knowledge dudes to see if they have positive suggestions that can really make these pieces of promotional writing sing.

I've changed the domain name, "www.davidbarron.biz" to forward to "My Fun Resume Page". No more does it forward to the one below.

It's hard to miss "David C. Barron's Top Ten Movies", because it's in the top ten Google search results for "David Barron".

Creative writers' resumes shouldn't be boring or mundane.
It should be entertaining and even a bit weird.

It's My Birthday Today

I'm happy I was born. I'm happy that I'm married to my wife, Irene. We all have challenges that we have to face. For my wife, it's unemployment. For me, it's unfulfilled artistic(writing)ambitions.

There are others that are much worse off than us in the Greater Toronto Area. Some pay 75% of their wages for rent and they, also, have to go to the food bank to feed their kids. They need affordable housing that isn't there yet. So, when you go to church or pray to God, consider those that are less fortunate than yourself.

Crusade for what you believe in and leave the world a better place than you found it.

At the same time maintain a good sense of humor about yourself and others and always try to improve yourself.
