Movie Review 88: Spiderman 2
Mood:  a-ok
Tobey Macquire is great as the self-doubting superhero. For once I agree with the critics on this one.

The film takes the superhero genre to the next level. Four stars.

Santa's Elves At Canada Post
There were many of us in the Post Office who handled mail directed to Santa Claus. Look at the statistics.
1. 112,000 letters were received and answered in the Greater Toronto Area(GTA).
2. 461 GTA volunteers(Santa's helpers)answered letters.
3. 43 postal retirees(old elves)answered letters.
4. 6,134 letters were received from foreign countries. They were addressed to "Santa Claus, North Pole, H0H H0H. In my mail section, The Toronto Exchange Office, we directed this mail to Santa's volunteers.
5. 40 countries sent letters to Santa via Canada for reply.

We hope that Christmas time was a blessing for you like it was for us.

Difficulties In Registering A Domain Name
Over the last week, I've had considerable trouble in registering a CA name. After all, I live in Canada. It's good to have a Canadian domain name.

The name is www.daveandirene.ca. Should have been simple to register, but it wasn't. The authority responsible to do this is the CIRA. All I had to do was enter an account user number and password on this page https://registrants.cira.ca/user.
For some reason, the account user number and password didn't work. I didn't go to the next page in the registration process.

I wrote my web hoster and the CIRA about this problem and they couldn't believe it. They couldn't believe there was a problem. They threatened to cancel www.daveandirene.ca. I threatened with my lawyer.
I've had no problem registering domain names with godaddy.com, but these jokers are another matter.

Wish me luck.

The Top Ten Health Questions And Answers Of 2004
Are we getting the right health advice these days? Check out the questions and common sense answers below:

Q. I've heard that cardiovascular exercise can prolong life. Is this true?

A: Your heart is only good for so many beats, and that's it... don't waste them on exercise. Everything wears out eventually. Speeding up your heart should not make you live longer; that's like saying you can extend the life of your car by driving it faster. Want to live longer? Take a nap.

Q: Should I cut down on meat and eat more fruits and vegetables?

A: You must grasp logistical efficiencies. What does a cow eat? Hay and corn. And what are these? Vegetables. So a steak is nothing more than an efficient mechanism of delivering vegetables to your system. Need grain? Eat chicken. Beef is also a good source of field grass (green leafy vegetable). A pork chop can give you 100% of your recommended daily allowance of vegetable products.

Q: Should I reduce my alcohol intake?

A: No, not at all. Wine is made from fruit. Brandy is distilled wine, that means they take the water out of the fruity bit so you get even more of the goodness that way. Beer is also made out of grain. Bottoms up!

Q: How can I calculate my body/fat ratio?

A: Well, if you have a body and you have body fat, your ratio is one to one. If you have two bodies, your ratio is two to one, etc.

Q: What are some of the advantages of participating in a regular exercise program?

A: Can't think of a single one, sorry. My theory is: No Pain...Good

Q: Aren't fried foods bad for you?

A: You have not been reading and retaining this!!. Foods are fried these days in vegetable oil. In fact, they're permeated in it. How could getting more vegetables be bad for you?

Q: Will sit-ups help prevent me from getting a little soft around the middle?

A: Definitely not! When you exercise a muscle, it gets bigger. You should only be doing sit-ups if you want a bigger stomach.

Q: Is chocolate bad for me?

A: Are you crazy? HELLO...... Cocoa beans... another vegetable!!! It's the best feel-good food around!

Q: Is swimming good for your figure?

A: If swimming is good for your figure, explain whales to me.

Q: Is getting in-shape important for my lifestyle?

A: Hey! 'Round' is a shape!

Well, I hope this has cleared up any misconceptions you may have had about food and diets and remember, "Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a well-preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways - Chardonnay in one hand - strawberries in the other - body thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and screaming...

WOO HOO! What a Ride

The Tsunani: Nature's/God's Wake Up Call
In the movies when people are unconscious, they are woke up by throwing water on their faces.

In this world, there's been not only bad stewardship(e.g. more pollution, etc.)over the earth, but great tolerance for povery, disease and war.

The rich nations(e.g. the U.S.)want to improve poorer nations on their terms(e.g. look at the restrictions on importation of goods from third world countries).

Millions have died in Cambodia, Rwanda, and the Congo with the G7 nations hardly noticing.

Man's inhumanity to man comes to the surface only when it affects us personally.

Fortunately, natural disasters communicate to the humanity in all of us.(It could happen to anyone.)

When the rich get richer and the poor get poorer, pestilence and death often follow.

If we're going to make the world a better place to live in, we have to think of ourselves as citizens of the earth rather than "a blessed inhabitant" of "a blessed country." No one is that blest on this planet. A human can be terminated in a thousand ways that have nothing to do with war or natural disasters.

Better stewardship of the earth and humanity is the answer. We can do a great deal for our fellow man if the will is there. For what we can't do, we must ask God and his angels to do.

The power of belief must be channelled towards God who can unleash positive long term changes in the human condition.

The Tsunami was a big wake up call for all of us. It's time to decide what kind of world we want to wake up to in the future.

Man's Inhumanity To Man
Despite the destructive power of the South Asian Tsunami, it's small in comparision to the murder and genocide perpetrated and tolerated by mankind.

It should be easier to deal with evil tendencies within our species than the environment, but that hasn't been the case in recent history.

John Steinbeck's The Grapes Of Wrath
Genocide Links
The Forgotten Battle In The Congo
Man needs help in overcoming forces which can destroy him or make him a slave.
Our Heavenly Father, may your name be honored;
May your kingdom come, and your will be done on earth as it is in Heaven.
Give us this day the bread we need,
Forgive us what we owe to you, as we have also forgiven those who owe anything to us.
Keep us clear of temptation, and save us from evil.
