Personal Notes On The Barron Blog

Basically, this blog is about my life on earth in the 20th and 21st century. If I make it to the 22nd century in this life or an afterlife, perhaps, I might be able to plug my consciousness into the internet and continue this blog.
I hate barriers that would block communication between different kinds of life forms(i.e. humanoids, spirits, aliens, photonic beings, androids, intelligent animals, etc.). I'm not so egocentric or limited that I consider humans on earth as the best that life can evolve into.
I try to present the most interesting parts of my existence to my reading public.
I try to give insights to others from my diverse studies into human experience, and the paranormal.
Life is full of puzzles, challenges and extreme volatility. Just look at the stock markets of the world.
Life is also full of great music, literature, films and comedy. A great thinker once said "that dying is easy, comedy is difficult". The easy paths in life are not always the most rewarding.
I try to touch bases with you on the things that matter most and the things that we crusade against like poverty, ignorance and war, etc.
Maybe I succeed somewhat and maybe I fail somewhat. Whatever the case, this blog soldiers on and on and on.

The Long Hard Road Of Steven Truscott

Apart from the fact, that it's good Canada abolished the death penalty in 1976. Please remember that Steven Truscott was sentenced to death in 1959 and it would have occured except for the intervention of the Government of the day.
He was then sentenced to life in prison and released on parole in 1969. He had to live under an assumed name for many years because of the stigma connected with his murder conviction. However, he never lost hope and he continued to fight to clear his name.
On August 28/2007, he was acquitted of the murder of 12-year old, Lynne Harper.
What Steven Truscott's life communicates to me is that there's no time limit on your goals and what you believe in.

Not Much Competition In This Year's Canadian Idol

With many of the good singers already gone on Canadian Idol, it looks like clear sailing to the #1 spot for Jaydee Bixby.
While Jaydee still sounds too much like Elvis on many of his performances, he does have a boyish charm and an ability to stay in tune that the remaining artists often lack.
Other contestants like Matt Rapley, Martha Joy, Greg Neufeld and Tara Oram could have given Jaydee some competition, but the alternate pop/rock fans voted for Brian Melo, Carly Rae, and Dwight D'Eon.
Remember the American Idol finals between Jordon Sparks and "beat-boxer", Blake Lewis. Middle of the road America voted Sparks over the hip hop noises of Lewis.
Hearing Brian, Carly Rae and Dwight sing classic standards was painful. However, Jaydee singing "When You're Smiling" made my night. I wish him good luck in his career.

One Tired Postie With Newfoundland Memories

I call this picture "Rabbit Ears Newfoundland." my wife's brother, Fred Noseworthy is on the right and his wife, Evonne is on the left.
After getting back from Newfoundland, I had to get up every day at 5:30 A.M and sort mail parcels for seven hours at the Gateway Post Office. When I got home, I was too tired to do much even write in this blog.
In Spaniard's Bay, we slept in for two weeks until 9:00 A.M. or 10:00 A.M.
We never brought a camera with us, but Kelsey Noseworthy our niece took some pictures which she sent to us by email. Kelsey also sent us this great email below:
"Hi Aunt Irene And Uncle Dave,

It was so nice to have you home in Newfoundland for a while, although
it had to be under the circumstances. I hope you had a good time at Pop's birthday Saturday night, having a fire and singing songs is nothing new to us, so needless to say we always have a good time, and hope you did as well. A few minutes ago, I was on your websites, and they're pretty fasinating. I had no idea you knew so much about that stuff. Whereas my nan and pop, probably wouldn't be able to turn it on. I hope you had a good flight back, and come home soon for another visit. Hopefully before I get married in twenty years or so. Right Aunt Irene? Keep in touch, and hope to hear from you soon."

One Man's Subprime Junk Is......

In the topsy-turvy world of finance, just about anything can be a "security". Securities, basically, are candy coated financial paper of something that's worth less than it looks.
In the wonderful world of subprime finance, mortgages are assets that can be bought and sold for a profit. If that doesn't happen, there's always BANKRUPTCY.
It's remarkable that so many get caught in these irresponsible lending practises that disguise a borrower's credit record by starting him/her at ludicrously low interest rates and raising them up much higher later.
Fortunately, most people in the U.S. are responsible with their lines of credit and don't need to bailed out or to go bankrupt.
In financial matters avoid fear, greed and stupidity.

Back From The Rock

The "Rock" in this case is Newfoundland not Alcatraz. The people who stay on the Rock do so because they want to. Many Newfies live their whole life there without going anywhere else.
Yesterday, it rained all day and all night which is normal for the Avalon Peninsula which is close to the Atlantic ocean.
Despite the weather, we managed to see the "Cable Building" in Heart's Content where the first transatlantic cable was laid in 1866. It was an awesome feat of engineering in the 19th century and the operation lasted until 1965.
We woke up to a strong cool breeze from Spaniard's Bay which felt quite invigorating.
After that, we said goodbye to my wife's brother Clarence and his wife, Winnie. We don't see each other very often, but the time spent together was lots of fun (singing, playing cards, enjoying a good laugh, etc)
When we left, there were tears in our eyes.

We're In Bay Roberts Newfoundland

My wife, Irene and I are staying with her brother, Clarence Noseworth and his wife, Winnie Noseworthy, for the rest of the week.
It has been just beautiful here the past week, temperatures have averaged 22 C in the daytime and 12 C at night. The evening walks by "Conception Bay" itself has been worth the airfare.
Over the last few days, we've put Irene Noseworthy's headstone in its proper position and placed a fence around the grave. This wasn't easy to do because the cementary was on a steep hill.
Newfies are rugged individualists who like to do things themselves rather than get high paid help for a job.
Irene and Winnie are getting their hair done in Bay Roberts, right now. I'm writing this entry from a nearby library.

Irene Noseworthy: Oct/19/1920 To Aug/07/2007

Today, my wife's mother, Irene Noseworthy, passed away. Unfortunately for the last years of her life, she was bedridden because of Alzheimer's Disease.
Irene is remembered for her high spirits and her devotion to her family which numbered two daughters and five sons. She was famous for her cherry cake that was enjoyed by many over the years
Her husband Joe, predeceased her in 1990. They raised their family in Spaniards Bay Newfoundland.
The surviving members of her immediate family are Irene Barron (my wife), Julia Parsons, Walt, Joe, Alex, Fred and Clarence Noseworthy. There are numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.

The CBC's Triple Sensation Contest

The Canadian Broadcasting Corporation finally came up with its own reality based talent contest. It wasn't a Canadian version of "Do You Think You Can Dance?" or "Canada's Got Talent."
It's actually a combination of three arts: singing, dancing and acting. It's called "The Triple Sensation Contest" and it debuts on Oct/07/07. The contest runs in two hour episodes for three weeks in order to find a winner for a $150,000 performing arts scholarship.
My wife and I were at the taping of the finale yesterday at the Rose Theatre in Brampton which will be broadcast on Oct/21/07 on the CBC network.
There were six performers in the big finale, but I can't tell you who were my favourites because I was swore to secrecy.
The performers did songs from the George Gershwin's songbook and monologues from Canadian plays. If you want to find out more about the Canadian artistic scene please tune in, it's quite different from something you might see in the U.S.
The highlight of the evening was the dance number, "I Got Rhythm" which got a standing ovation from the audience.
It was a free night of theatre for us, but we paid for it by acting like trained seals for four hours. You must remember that TV programs have long delays between performances and sometimes scenes have to be reshot again and again and again.
All in all, I had a good time, but my rear end didn't like it.
