High Stakes At Niagara Falls Casinos
Mood:  vegas lucky

At one time, you could play craps or blackjack at the Niagara casino with a minimun bet of $5. This was usually in the morning before the herd of gamblers arrived in the afternoon. A $50 dollars stake could get you a few hours of fun and you might win a dollar or two.

However, things have changed. The five dollar crap table is still there, but it's usually overcrowded. The minimum bet on Blackjack Saturday was $10 and that went up to $15 at 11:00 A.M.

When we arrived at the casino today, the minimun bet at Blackjack was $15 at 9:30 A.M. So much for a cheap table that you could play for hours. I only had $50 dollars to play with and used that up in 15 minutes. Fortunately, I won more than I lost and I walked away with $17.50 in winnings. For the whole weekend, I won a grand total of $30 dollars. I didn't play that long, because I didn't have a huge amount of money to gamble. I know my limit and I play within it.

My basic strategy is to bet my money a little at a time, than stop playing when my stake is finished and see how much I've won.

Obviously, the games at the casinos are moving away from the average player and going after the high rollers who are often complusive gamblers. To play for a few hours, probably, requires a couple of hundred dollars now. I don't like it, but what can I do about it. Just bring more gambling money to the casino, but play less in a year.

Two New Domain Addresses

I have many domain names with www.godaddy.com. Over the last few weeks, they've had a sale on "info" domains for 99 cents each. Remember www.cupw.info(CUPW Guy In CUPW Land). I bought that one for $.99.

Despite being on a tight budget, I bought two more "info domains". One if for my fun resume website at www.davebarron.info and the other one is a website on loglines(www.logline.info). What they are and what to do with them.

Domain addresses simply help friends and visitors find and navigate around your websited quickly. Even this blog has a domain address connected with it(www.barronblog.com).

All the best on the Victoria Day weekend.

Top Ten Music Videos Of All Time

I have over a 100 music videos on my website at YouTube. Out of those, I chose ten that were either very original or personal to me.

From Al Jolson(1940s)to Carrie Underwood(2006)there's many great videos on YouTube. It was tough narrowing them down to a "Ten Best List".

It's great that the "History Of Music" can be catalogued and experienced by anyone with an internet connection. The tunes are found on my top movies, top songs and top videos website. The domain address is  www.davidbarron.biz

Feel free to send your top songs or music videos of all time to me: qualteam@yahoo.com .

Weird Al Yankovic For American Idol

Hey, maybe it's time for a grunge, indie, hip hop rocker to win American Idol. In which case, Weird Al would beat out everyone including Blake Lewis. Check out some of his greatest hits/non hits.

  1. Smells Like Nirvana Remember Kurt Cobain? He was from Seattle too.
  2. Canadian Idiot Despite being a Canadian, I like Weird Al's version of this song better than Green Day's.
  3. Dare To Be Stupid  This is my favourite Weird Al song. It goes the full nine yards as alternate music.
  4. White And Nerdy A white guy can do "cool hip-hop/rap" too. Again Weird Al shows his style.
  5. Like A Surgeon What Madonna did for virginity, Weird Al did for surgery.

Major Disappointment On American Idol
Mood:  sad

I was very sad to see Melinda Dolittle leave on tonight's program. I didn't think she'd be the next Idol, but I thought she'd be in the final for sure.

Melinda was Simon Cowell's favourite from the start and I think that part of the voting was a reaction against Simon trying to influence the vote in her favor.

Simon has been right many times on who continued and who got voted off. The anti Simon vote could have helped Jordin too because he called the best song of last night (I Who Have Nothing) an old fashioned 60-year relic. Melinda's "I am a woman" is at least 35 years old but Simon never mentioned that one.

It's obvious that Blake Lewis doesn't have the voice to compete with the ladies, but he was singing songs known to a younger crowd. Unfortunately, choice of song can play positively or negatively with an audience.

What really matters is that Melinda has a great career ahead of her irregardless of "An American Idol Outcome". Clay Aiken, Jennifer Hudson, Chris Daughtry and others have got voted off, but ended up with careers anyway.

Blog TV or No Blog TV? That's The Question.

Today, I checked out BlogTV at http://www.blogtv.ca/LiveNow. The media appeared to be used by single people to send messages to each other. The young girls smiled a lot and flirted with their eyes. A young guy tried to make profound comments about creating his own world in this life and the next. However, he paused many times to put his thoughts together and rambled along in half sentences. None of this produced interesting material for a blog, video or not.

Talking into webcams seemed to make people look lonely and in need of friends, attention and/or love.

To me, a blog entry has to be carefully thought out and expressed. I'd have a hard time doing that in front of a camera without notes. Of course, if I had notes, why not write them down. That's what I want to communicate.

I've written over 1100 blog entries in four years and I've never felt the need to present this material over a webcam to YouTube or BlogTV.

My Number One Gospel Song:"Jesus Take The Wheel"
Mood:  lyrical
I'd put this song at the top of a list which would include: "What A Friend We Have In Jesus", "One Day At A Time, "Just A Closer Walk With Thee", "I Will Fly Away", "Jesus Loves Me", "Were You There When They Crucified My Lord?", "How Great Thou Art", "He Touched Me", and "Amazing Grace".
A great deal of credit would have to go to Carrie Underwood in making the above song number one. The whole feeling of desperation rang true as well as the powerful belief that Jesus could do something about an out-of-control life.

My First Games Of Texas Holdem Poker

I've watched a lot of "Texas Holdem Poker" on television, but only last night did I play my first matches. Basically, our games were very user-friendly. The entrance fee was $10 a person, winner take all. 50 chips were distributed to five players. The blinds started with one chip for the small blind and two chips for the large blind. As each player was eliminated, the blinds would double. This made it very easy to bet and raise.

Playing this way, we finished three matches in less than three hours.

Call it beginner's luck or maybe I learned how to apply my "Texas Holdem Theory" properly in real games. Basically, I never played a hand unless it had a chance of winning and when I did play it, I oftened pushed the raises to the limit. The result was two out of three matches won.

Of course, it was fun to win, but it was also fun to try to play the game properly: Who will fold by raising? Who bluffs or trys to improve their hand to the bitter end. Is my hand better than the other hands now? Should I play this hand or not?

Review: Strar Trek NG: All Good Things
Mood:  a-ok

Yesterday, I caught the last episode of Star Trek NG and then I realized how much I've been missing good science fiction on TV lately. "Lost", "Jericho" and "Star Gate" haven't been able to do the trick.

The story was so well plotted in three different time zones that it became believeable. Not only that, "Q" seemed to grow to divine stature in trying to help Picard solve a cosmic puzzle/paradox that threatened all of mankind.

Picard "quantum leaps" to the future and the past in order to solve an "anti-time anomaly" that grows bigger as it goes into the past.

The whole ending of the story tied loose ends from the first STNG episode("Engagement At Far Point") Four stars!

This last instalment of STNG  goes on my top ten list of Star Trek episodes.

It Looks Like Jordan Sparks Will Be The Next American Idol
Mood:  a-ok

On Tuesday's Idol, her song choices were far superior to Melinda Dolittle.

While I would give Melinda an edge on her dynamic soulful voice, her song stylings reminded me too much of Arethra Franklin and Tina Turner.

Jorden was just short of masterful on two of Barry Gibb's biggest hits, "To Love Somebody" and "Woman In Love".

It was a pity that Lakisha Jones got voted out over the only guy left on Idol, Blake Lewis. Lakisha's voice was a little too strident for my liking, but she certainly outperformed a marginal talent like Lewis who uses body motions as a substitute for atequate vocal renditions.

My original choice for Idol 2007 was Melinda, but Jorden has developed so much during the competition. Only a majory gaffe in the next two weeks would make her lose the contest.
