Movie Review 71: Weekend At Bernies
Mood:  a-ok
This picture wrote the manual on how you can have fun with a dead guy. The laughs keep coming and Bernie keeps humming. Four stars.

Fun Links In The Barron Blog
While I have a tendency to focus on movies, the paranormal, aliens, new age religions and top ten lists, I also have hundreds of fun links to weird websites. When you get tired of searching out mystical realms, you can go to these sites for a chuckle:

Welcome To The Barron Universe
It stretches from Brampton, Ontario Canada to the outer/ inner reaches of my mind. There are links to it both within this blog and on the left hand side of this page.

What you find in the "Barron Universe" can vary from person to person. Some may find entertaining material, fascinating characters and unusual insights into life. Others may find nothing at all.

Part of my mission in life is to build a road to Katimavik where humans, aliens and spirits can meet and understand each other better.

Travelling there is half the fun, so buckle up and lets take off at cyberspeed.

Blacklash On American Idol
Mood:  irritated
A couple of weeks ago, Simon had declared that the final competition would be between Fantasia and La Toya. This relegated Diana and Jasmine to second class competitors.

I don't think the audience appreciated this attempt to fix results. It was fitting irony on the "expert" opinions of the judges that the favourites were placed in the loser circle. To me, this was audience backlash against the blatant attempt to manipulate the votes.

Don't get me wrong. I felt that La Toya should have stayed and Jasmine should have went.

The influence of the judges' negative and positive opinions should have ended when the top 12 performers were chosen. After that, the audience decides who's the best and the worse. What do you think?

Movie Review 70: Bruce Almighty
Mood:  mischievious
To begin with, there is some very funny stuff in this film. Particularly, the zany over-the-top material that Jim Carrey is good at. Some scenes were played just for laughs and they got them from me.

However, when God tells Carrey that he's(i.e. God) going on vacation and then shows up a couple of scenes later, you know there are big holes in the storyline. Two and a half stars.

Spring Has Sprung In Brampton
Mood:  a-ok
For the first time this spring, we were able to walk in our neighbourhood without a jacket. This is a big change from the blizzard we encountered near St. John's Newfoundland on Apr/26/04. Brampton is about 25 miles north and west of Toronto. If you want to know what the weather is on any given day, just link to this blog entry. It's A No Brainer :Van Helsing is #1
Mood:  sharp
Both "Hellboy" and "Van Helsing" have exciting impact previews that stress heavy duty supernatural action. It paid off for Van Helsing this weekend, but it still has a budget of $150,000,000 to cover. No one can accuse the producers of this flix of engaging in cheap thrills and chills.

I have my own favourite vampire and vampire movies. Check them out below:

My Top Ten Mother's Day Songs
Songs about mothers are hard to find, but the tunes that I've discovered are worth the effort to hear.

I couldn't find the lyrics to Connie Francis's "Mama" or Derek Pilgrim's "I'm The One Who Put The Gray In My Mamma's Long Black Hair". However, I'm sure if you check out the collection of CDs by these two, you'll be able to find those songs.

All of these songs reflect the love and tenderness that a songwriter felt for his mother or a mother:
1. Ave Maria/Perry Como 2. Mammy/Al Jolson 3. Rock And Roll Lullaby/B.J. Thomas 4. Mamma Tried/Merle Haggard 5. I'm Living In Shame/The Supremes 6. My Mother's Long Black Hair/Derek Pilgrim 7. Lady Madonna/The Beatles 8. She Works Hard For The Money/Donna Summer 9. Mama/Connie Francis 10. Having My Baby/Paul Anka

The Critics Rant About "Van Helsing"
Mood:  silly
But the movie's still going to be number one at the box office this week.

The story looks campy with its special effects and corny dialogue. Van Helsing is the orginal male "Buffy The Vampire Slayer". It also looks similiar to "Abbott And Costello Meet Frankenstein".

With X-man, Hugh Jackman, tossed in for good measure, how can it lose?
